It's incredibly sad to think that Le Guin wrote this short book in the face of the US war on Indochina, and how we as humans haven't learnt much in the decades since - think of the genocide of Uyghurs, for one. We're a horrendous race capable of endless killing of each other, and this is the plague that we would no doubt take on other planets if we could. It's a very insightful read for sure.

misogyny: the book is NOT misogynistic but a good chunk of the novella is written from the POV of a character who is very mysoginistic & racist (specifically anti-asian racism)
