You can count on Farah Heron for an enjoyable rom-com with a fiery, independent lead with a full, well-rounded life. I've enjoyed each Heron book I've read, and so when I saw she was releasing a modern EMMA retelling, I was super excited.

KAMILA KNOWS BEST did not disappoint, both as an EMMA retelling and as a story of its own right. Rohan was just perfectly dreamy and Kamila was perfectly imperfect. This is a great rom-com to add to your list!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free review copy of this book. It was a delight!

*I received a copy of this book from goodreads in exchange for my honest review*

Kamila Hussain has always been seen as the girl who loves to party, and is obsessed with fashion and her Insta-famous dog. She loves her job, her friends and her father. The only thing missing is love.

This is a cute slow-burn friends to lovers retelling of Emma by Jane Austen. I loved how this was set in Toronto, and included so many puppies (including one named POTATO!) There is a lot of talk about accounting which made the story drag a bit for me as I have absolutely no interest in that. I also felt that the book became rather repetitive, with the constant Bollywood parties Kamila hosted. Although a complicated character, I wasn't the biggest fan of Kamila, she got on my nerves for the majority of the story. I liked Rohan, the love interest much better. I think their banter was a lot of fun, and I liked watching them grow their relationship as the story progressed. My favourite part of the book were the female friendships though. The supporting characters were so lovely, and I would love a spin off following them!

This book started out okay, but it got more and more cringey for me. I found the main character pretty selfish and she always assumed how others felt or how others would react. She never actually ASKED her friends how they felt or what they meant if they said something confusing... and since she assumed things, she made situations worse.

Ugh, miscommunication is the worst trope. Lots of other aspects of this book were obvious romance plot devices, and the book felt pretty lackluster because of how typical/obvious the characters were.

My rating system:
5 ⭐ = Great story, loved it, would definitely recommend
4 ⭐ = Good story, enjoyed it, worth the read
3 ⭐ = Okay story, some predictable parts, it was fine
2 ⭐ = Lame story, boring, kept losing interest
1 ⭐ = Terrible story, couldn't finish
