Telling the Norse cannon from Loki's perspective, The Gospel of Loki reads as a sort of cross between Circe and Norse Mythology (although it came out years before both of them). Entralling and yet clearly not someone you'd trust as a friend, Loki's voice, as written by Harris and performed by Corduner is absolutely fantastic. While containing a similar cast to the Thor movies and wider Marvel universe, the characters and stories here feel distinct, Loki is introduced to the Aesir as Odin's brother, not Thor's, for instance. In more than just its title, Harris references the Bible in this story, providing some interesting comparisons that are worthy of more thought.

Let there be…

Maybe more a 4,5⭐️ but still thinking.

First and foremost, as a Marvel-Loki fan, this was a little tougher to get into because he’s set in my head in a certain way and that idea needs to be completely let go. There needs to be nothing. Only then can you really take this retelling in in its fullest.

Once you’re set like that, it’s easy to pick up on what Loki’s like and man. No Loki can catch a break, can they?
I loved the way he was, the way he reacted to certain things, and especially the way he narrated it all. It’s a wonderfully written book and even if it hurts that he hurts, gets hurt, over and over and over, you keep reading. It keeps pulling you in.

I won’t be reading book 2, I know that. But this retelling definitely hit well.
