Not as good as I wanted it to be... maybe something got lost in translation? Mopple the Whale still makes me smile, though.

Clever tale balanced with a quirky, dark humor and hilarious sheep characters. My favorite sheep were Zora who liked to stare into the abyss and Mopple the Whale. Just an entertaining but not necessarily light read with lots of laugh out loud moments, especially if you have any experience at all with sheep. I listened to this on the audiobook and the reader had a lovely, accented voice and it was a nice way to spend my drive to work. The murder mystery itself seemed a little pointless -- it was definitely the observations of the sheep on everything from "double" grazing, winter lambs and human behavior is what kept me hooked.

Loved the perspective of this book. It was cheeky and serious, balancing heavy themes

This book was a mystery, and not entirely because of the murder. I truly felt like there was no clear cut line between what moments were supposed to be serious and what ones were supposed to be comedic because the premise of this book suggests areas of both. While a murder is very serious and important, the portion where it’s solved by sheep should be funny or comedic in some way. There was no differentiation between these moods for me. Usually, I pick up unusual books to experience them just because I try to step outside of my comfort zone. I found this book at a goodwill and while I feel grateful for getting the opportunity to read and complete this book (after 4 months, thank you college), I would not read it again and I don’t really feel like I took too much away from it. I always look for some sort of wisdom from everything I read however so this is my takeaway: small towns can become festering wounds with one small drop of water. They can become cruel, conceited, or unruly very easily and should be a thing to fear. That’s it, that’s all I got.
