Three stars.

Brett Ross left his small town years ago and never looked back. After his parents died he was taken in by an aunt and uncle who totally neglected him, interested only in his inheritance. Bullied at school for wearing dirty clothes and not washing, his only friends were the Hamilton boys who lived next door and their little sister Anna. Now he's a successful businessman but his childhood has scarred him and made him closed off. Back in town for Christopher Hamilton's wedding (which of course takes place over an entire week) he can't help but notice that little Anna Hamilton still has a huge crush on him. Brett has always adored Anna, ever since she looked after him when he was a child, but he made a blood oath to her brothers that he would never lay a hand on her. Why would he? He is too broken to ever give any woman what they need and deserve.

Let me say I am bored to tears of the hero being broken and unable to love - why don't we ever get a heroine who feels that way? Also Anna can tell when Brett is fake smiling and unhappy on the inside but she can't tell when he's lying?

And don't get me started on Anna's four older brothers! On what planet do four 30+ year old men act like 16 year olds and threaten ONE OF THEIR FRIENDS for looking at their sister? I could just see the flashing lights saying "one of these will be the next book".

And yet there were some tender moments (wine coolers and cookies) and I did enjoy reading the novel, I just felt that I had read this book, or several just like it, lots of times before and I didn't think Diane Alberts brought anything new to the equation.

Having said that I will still probably read all the other books in what appears to be a series.

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this contemporary romance with it's dual POV. I enjoyed the story line and really felt for the character of Brett.

Brett was raised by his aunt/uncle as a young child. He was bullied and made fun of in school. His guardians had only cared about one thing....his inheritance and never showed him love or affection. Now he is older and the CEO of his father's company. He is good looking and rich but still feels that he does not deserve the love and affection of anyone and that he can only give women a good time in bed.

He ends up going home for a wedding of one of his child hood friends. Enter Anna. She is a spit fire and is perfect for Brett, if only he would not have to deal with her four older brothers...whom are his best friends...whom he mad a pact that he would never lay a hand on Anna.

This leads to quite the predicament and the perfect plot but we also have the inner issues of Brett being unloveable to contend with.

I enjoyed the older brother's protectiveness but felt that at times it went a bit over the top? I really enjoyed the fast pace of the book and liked the idea of getting right to the "guts" of the story quickly.

I LOVED the epilogue which gives us a better look at the future with Anna & Brett. The story was tied up nicely and I do see a series in our future;-)
