Wow, they really throw everything at you on page 1. I was expecting a bit more info about the missing father they were searching for, but it was just all about the grieving king going mad and murdering innocent creatures and executing the literal children that try to free them.
The art is wonderful, and I love the detail that goes into the animal creation. The story moves incredibly fast, almost a little too fast. I’m hoping we learn more this mysterious missing father.

Wonderful story, wonderfully illustrated. Fantasy, but without feeling like fantasy….if that makes any sense. I’m very excited to continue reading this series.

Really interesting story idea with nice art. However, the first volume   in this series was just not that engaging.

Great art, interesting narrative. Seems violent for middle grade readers so even though the characters are middle grade age, I'd consider this to be a YA read. Villain does seem a bit simplistic though.

Stunning artwork, great concepts/ideas, but the execution wasn't too great. It didn't help that the action dominated and there wasn't enough exposition/world-building as a result.

3,5 stars.
Jo Mi-Gyeong's illustrations were amazing! But the story felt so rushed!! This has all the ingredients to be a 5 stars comic book series, but every issue tries to tell so much in so little that you have to fill all the gaps.
Also, neither the illustrations nor the story hold back when portraying gruesome and dark moments, but the dialogue feels a bit too easy and simple.
I wish I could give it a higher rate, because there's so much potential here and what is done good is very good, but the bad... yikes.

Note: I obtained a copy of this book through the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The art is nice to look at, but it doesn't function well for the reader; With how little you learn about the core group of characters in this first TPB I kept getting characters mixed up and it didn't help that their faces looked so similar. There is also a strange tone that might or might not appeal to everyone, like it is going for a fairytale/Rugrats adventure but realized it cast Tommy Pickles with a live wolf and is just rolling with the idea.

Ultimately, it leaves me wary about whether or not I would come back to read more of the series but this is a quick read if you wish to give it a shot
