Very slow start! But finished quickly. Unsure how I feel about the controversy around this book and its topic.

This book was so well done, fully thought out and expertly written. Endearing characters. This book, however, was heartbreaking and extremely difficult to read. It would be difficult to recommend to others. There is also concern for misrepresentation due to a non-immigrant author writing this novel.

This was un-put-downable for me. I read critiques of it while I was midway through, and I think they're valid, but I would recommend it to anyone interested.

Some parts seem highly fictionalized and there are problematic stereotypes. I recommend Solito instead of this book if you are looking for a well written, accurate, heart wrenching story about the journey of undocumented immigrants.
