My reason for picking this book was entirely because I couldn't sleep, and I wanted to read something that wouldn't allow me to be up all night, hence picking a short story.
This book was ridiculous! A short story shouldn't have nearly this many feels in it, all while quickly building characters and laying out the rules for a modern galaxy, no less. Just read it, already.

This is a great short story. It's heartbreaking, saying so much in so little time. I'm not a sci-fi reader, but Mars and space exploration are really just the stage for this story. This core of this story is about the difficult choice between two things you love, and about facing the end of life in a relationship, of someone you love becoming old and having to chose how to say goodbye. It's sensitive and beautifully told.

A short story about our favourite lady astronaut Elma. Elma, now in her 60s is offered a chance for one last space mission. However her husband is dying. Should she take this last chance to fly or stay?
- It was bittersweet to see Elma and Nathaniel again. Considering the number of pages, the author did an excellent job of catching up the reader and breaking their heart over the changes.
- Although not deeply described, I loved the world-building of life on Mars and the changes in space travel.
A short must read for fans of the Lady Astronaut series.

Heartbreaking and beautiful. I read it after reading The Calculating Stars and The Fated Sky, so I already knew and loved these characters. But I believe it's a truly beautiful story on its own.

I thought this was a very well done novelette. A complex, character based little story that truly truly shined in a short amount of pages.

It was a really nice novelette.
Though it was short, it contained a lifetime of hard choices and great achievements.
The ending made me sad but it was very fitting.

Ich hab es eigentlich nur wegen dem Titel und dem Cover ausgesucht, aber hey...ich habe die halbe Stunde super gerne in die Geschichte investiert. Am Ende habe ich sogar ein paar Tränen vergossen. Was will man mehr von 32 Seiten
