Any fan of the Star Wars universe will be thrilled with this all encompassing book of not only the franchise, but the enigma that is George Lucas.

Going from George's childhood and the influences that he latched onto at an early age that showed up in his work, all the way through the sale of Lucasfilms to the Disney Corporation, this is the definitive and thorough examination of all things Star Wars. I cannot imagine a better book being written on the subject than this. I give this one my HIGHEST of high recommendations! 5/5!!

So much great stuff here about the background, development and cultural importance of the Star Wars saga. I especially love the chapters about the much-maligned prequel movies, as Taylor sorts through all the different takes to figure out why they're so divisive. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who's not a big Star Wars fan, but for them it's essential.

The 1st part of the book which covered how Star Wars came about and episodes 4-6 was really good. Once it got to episodes 1-3 and beyond it got less interesting (no surprise).

I can't rave enough about this book. It's so fascinating, covering everything from how deeply Star Wars is entrenched in our collective consciousness, what were the influences that lead up to George Lucas making Star Wars, and how the Prequels became so damn awful. I'd say this book is a must-read for anyone who loves Star Wars, but shouldn't be overlooked by anyone who is even just a casual fan of Star Wars and is interested in how a niche, subculture genre film became the pop culture phenomenon that Star Wars is today.

There is a ton of information in here, however, there is a great much of it that is unnecessary IMHO.
Pages upon pages of lead in information but then there are more time jumps than an episode of Doctor Who. The timeline is very non-linear and makes for a confusing read, as well as introducing a 'fact' that is not relevant at the time in question, (but it will be in 1980, or 1983, or whatever).
I am sure that the due diligence was put in to create an accurate description of events, but the story is being told from many players in hind sight, so the 'facts' are questionable at best, and the influences are just not there.
I ended up skimming ym way through half of this, but again, there were some interesting tidbits of information in here, just not 500+ pages worth.

I really enjoyed this book! It's pretty much a biography on George Lucas. Or well, more on Star Wars. But the  actual  talk about the saga in a galaxy far, far away only starts around 100 pages into the book. Before that you learn more about Lucas, which is very interesting.

This book tells you a lot about how much trouble Lucas and co went through to create the universe we love to lose ourselves into so much and it was a great, quick read. The writer obviously is as passionate about the saga as we are.

The only downside for me is the part about the prequel hate. I try to keep myself from the hateful side of the fandom and stuff about parents keeping their kids from seeing the prequels, getting angry when they are mentioned and yelling that they don't exist irks me. Disliking stuff is totally fine, but I just disagree with stuff like that.
