I wanted to read this book because I absolutely enjoyed the first three books in this series. This book is a whole story with a beginning and an ending. However, there are a lot of refences to the first three books in this series. So, I would recommend reading them three first.

The main character is Detective Alex Cross who is finally thinking that life is good and he is finally coming out of the depression he’s been in since the death of his wife. Suddenly he is called to Union Station, a man is on the loose, firing at random into the swarming crowd of travellers and it’s someone Alex knows – Gary Soneji. Gary is determined to go down in a blaze of glory and he wants Alex to be there. In the meantime, an old ally of Alex’s is asking for help on a worldwide serial killer. Will Alex be able to get Gary once and for all? Will he be able to help his friend on the other serial killer?

My favourite chapters are the ones where Alex Cross kicks some bad guys ass. I love how he takes them down and the fact that his emotional state is also descripted in those chapters. This book also ends with questions I would like answers to which makes me want to read the next book. I love the different points of views throughout the book, it made the book interesting and getting to know the victims and the killers and to know what they are thinking. I love Sampson and Alex’s relationship and how sassy Sampson is. I loved seeing more of Cross family in general with Jannie and Damon growing up and understand their father’s job. I don’t really trust Christine at the moment and hopefully she will be here to stay. The only thing that I would say that is a weakness, for me personally, is the short chapters. I just prefer bigger chapters. However in this book, it did fit well with James Patterson’s writing style where it usually doesn’t work for me. I was hooked that after a while the short chapters didn’t both me as they usually would with other authors.

I really enjoyed this book and managed to finish it quite quickly. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and to see who Alex is going to be hunting next. I gave this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the storyline and would recommend it to anyone who a fan of Chris Carter and tv shows like Law and Order and Criminal Minds.
