I am at a loss for words over his illustrations. All English teachers need to invest in this book as each picture is a great prompt to a writing piece.

This is a great book to use as writing prompts in middle school.

I find these types of books fascinating, and this title is no exception. There's no plot, just a collection of Van Allsburg's highly detailed black-and-white illustrations and a caption each. It's perfect for inspiring further imagining and storytelling.

This book has 1-2 sentence stories that complement a full page illustration. Most of the stories had themes leaning towards sci-fi and fantasy.

In the classroom, this could be used as writing prompts for older students, or as discussion sparkers for younger students.

I couldn't get into this one. At all. Supposedly, these are illustrations from a mysterious man named Harris Burdick. And they all tell a story.'

Yeah I didn't get it.

That was weird and creepy and cool. Not a picture book, not really. Just unrelated black and white art with captions. But all of the art is awesome. And all the captions intriguing. The framing story implies that the art is someone else's, not the authors - a mysterious Harris Burdick who never reappears. There is no story here - just what you bring yourself.
