This was incredible.
Characters are SO REAL.
Worldbuilding is SO SMOOTH.
Plot is SO INTRIGUING.
I was worried it was gonna be a travel story. I did not see any of these plot twists coming and towards the end i was racing to the finish line.

This was very focused on the politics and half the time I had no idea what was happening. I still don’t know who is the good or bad guys. It was an intense read.

overall kind of underwhelming, although I really liked the ending (might even read the next book??
I need to know what happens to Aliiiii my boy ;3;
)

I thought the premise and worldbuilding were interesting, and in general I liked the characters too, but my main issue with the book was the pacing and the fact that I never felt like I had a good grasp on character motivations. like I loved Ali's character, but he kept wavering too much and backsliding on things that I thought he had already come to terms with? and Nahri annoyed me too because she would ask stupid questions or randomly notice something that I thought she had already noticed before and I was like.....bruh we were both there for this thing like 100 pages earlier why are you suddenly shocked about it now.....

I could tell the book was trying to go for a lot of morally grey concepts but it really was not hitting them for me. I think a lot of my confusion boiled down to not super understanding the history of the world and how it bled into current-day politics, or why certain characters were doing certain things. like a lot of it felt like the author was really trying to make me feel ~conflicted~ but instead I just felt confused.
