I'm shocked that readers haven't added the biggest content warning of all: pedophilia. Part 1 of this book is mostly about the relentless pursuit of the 12 year old main character by a grown man who eventually coerces her to run away with him one afternoon to marry him. A somewhat graphic depiction of her sexual assault follows and marital rape occurs later...if you can consider what they have a marriage.
The main character's mother and grandmother know the child is being pursued and don't bother educating her about what he wants. They simply tell the girl to stay away from the man. She is kept completely ignorant.
