The second book in this series is much stronger and more enjoyable than its predecessor. I feel like every aspect of this series: writing, character development, dialogue, world building, etc. was improved in this book. There haven't been a TON of surprises, but I found it still a fun read!

So… this was bingeable, at the very least. I don’t know that I found it particularly enjoyable, though??

The writing and plot issues from the first book were greatly improved, but Feyre is still a Mary Sue character. She masters everything so quickly while development is somewhat rushed to make time for the plot. Instead of focusing on creating depth and adding to the events, a lot of the plot is so quickly paced so that we don’t see what’s missing through the shock of the next thing happening.

I’ve been left with a lot of questions on so many things, least of all the magic system and how some people survived some things that maybe will be explained in later books? But ultimately, it just didn’t hit the vibe for me and was weirdly spicy at the wrong times.

I’d probably put this on the same level as Twilight. I get the hype, they’re fun, but if you’re looking for Rothfuss or even Pratchett levels of epic fantasy, this isn’t for you.

Big upgrade from the first book. Spice level increased by a good 40%. Enjoyed watching feyre’s progress and how she flourishes. It was nice to be able to relate to her mental health problems but watching her find herself again and find what life had to offer really just inspires hope in me. I’m excited for the next book albeit I don’t believe any other book in the series will live up to the expectations of this book.
