"I couldn't contain myself, I was going to spill out into the world, into the other, into others, and write about them."
In this stunning collection of essays, Ferrante engages in riveting discourse on the beauty and joy of words - she gives us an insight into her mind, discussing her most beloved stories and authors, and the magic that be found with a simple pen and paper. With intruiging dialouge about the strength of the female voice in literature, and the truth we have to speak.
Starting with the powerful pain and pen, which starts discussing the momumentl moment in life that is learning to write and how pivotal that can be, moving onto to Aquamarine, exploring the impulse to write and document and create. Then histories 1, starting with the iconic Dickinson poem that explores important authors and their unique influence on the female literary experience, finishing with Dantes Rib, about the lasting power of striking words.
Ferrante has a truly unique voice that can't be found written anywhere else. There's a genuine honesty and connection in her writing, a softness coupled wth unrelenting and brutal honesty. A must-read for any bibliophile.

very grateful ferrante took the time to compile this into a book. despite it seeming deceivingly short, it is so rich with information and wisdom and i really don’t think one read is enough. annotated heavily, it is definitely a text i will return to time and time again for inspiration, reference and even reassurance.
