This book is like if the Hunger Games was played by rich kids with magic. The plot is compelling and the relationships between the characters is pretty complex. The characters do like being edgy but it works well.

FREAKING LOVED THIS!

It’s a hunger games-esque fantasy story that doesn’t disappoint. If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers, you need to read it!

Best book I’ve read in a long time. I enjoyed that there were 2 narrators for the audiobook so they could trade off for different genders.

This was such a fun quest/adventure-based fantasy about a group of kids who are raised and forced to enter a deadly competition. I am not always the biggest fan of so many POVs (I really prefer 3 or less), but this was still wildly entertaining and captivating! I truly was at the edge of my seat for much of this book. I am really excited to continue the series. I also think this would translate really well to a movie trilogy or a limited tv series!

I truly enjoyed the chaos of ilvernath in this book, the story being a perfect read for fans of the hunger games and battle royale but with a touch more magic.

The high magic behind the tournament means unpredictability, and I truly didn’t expect
so many alliances to be formed within its borders

Despite everything going on I felt Brooke brought a chance at hope, despite all the darkness of what was occurring beneath the blood veil.

The unity of most of the champions at wanting to break the expectations of the cursed tournament was surprising. The deaths of those who didn’t want to consider the hope of change were unfortunate but I feel for the greater good of following generations in the hope the tournaments course is broken in the sequel.

I can’t wait to read the sequel as this book truly didn’t end how I expected it to, and I’m intrigued to see how plot points still missing pieces will finally be filled in the sequel.

Overall I Would reccomend this as both a dystopian and a fantasy, as I think the nature of both genres nurture the other to be greater than ever.

I really enjoyed the book and how messed up the characters were. At first you think they aren't as bad but as the book goes on.. They do become villains, each in their own right. What I loved was the characterization of each character and how they each had very clear goals and motivations. I will say though that Alistair's widow peak did not need to be mentioned quite as often - that being said, Alistair is my fave <3

Such a great and well developed book. Told from the perspective of 4 different characters, each person had their own unique personality and arc. Every single character in this book was expertly thought out. The magic system was simple to understand and the plot didn’t rely on it to further the story, which is a sign of a great writer. There were multiple twists in the story and I never got bored.

I listened to this book which made the experience phenomenal. The multiple audio narrators and accents definitely helped differentiate the 4 different perspectives.
