This is an intense, extremely violent, and challenging story that spans decades. While often horrifying, this is an extraordinarily well written novel. Gut punching monstrosities live alongside moments of aching loveliness. Families are lost, found, fled from, and reunited. History and living mythology play out on a grand scale. Our Share of Night is unforgettable, for better and worse.

This blew me away. I didn’t want it to end, loved the writing/translation (was already a fan of Enriquez from Things We Lost in the Fire), felt fully invested in the lore and so compelled by the characters. Really intense, a little eerie, sad, romantic, and funny.

and I am ALWAYS on board for a “house is bigger on the inside than the outside” House of Leaves vibe.

This one had some good moments or scenes where the hairs on the back of my neck were triggered, but ultimately, it was too sprawling in PoVs and timelines for me to really sink into it. The book felt more like it covered these lives in breadth but not depth and that's never my preference. I did like how there were historical events and people interwoven in the book, that was well-done.

I'm crying, I crashed through this book. The enormity of this book and the weight of it, feels like a slow beating pulse or a drum that marches and crashes. I'm still in book hangover mode and can't properly digest how I feel about it. I loved it. It was stretches of fascinating story punctuated by short bursts of violence that weren't nearly as descriptive as everything else, but felt more powerful for it. I'll update later as it marinates but 700 pages has never felt so fast.

Our Share of Night is an inimitable masterpiece, a stunning work of literary horror.  Enríquez’s storytelling is breathtaking and immersive, with gritty, tightly-woven character relationships which evolve over decades.  At the novel’s center is a pagan cult like that of Argentina’s San La Muerte, which here is guided by heart-stopping nightmares and pure horror.  The book is chiefly, however, a heartbreaking story of father and son, colored by political violence, a culture of fear, and ties that bind.  I didn’t want it to end, and I want to read it again, immediately.
