Just lovely. Sunny’s big brother is struggling with drug and behavior issues. The problems are not minimized in the story, but rather are filtered through the eyes of a middle schooler trying to make sense of a seemingly senseless situation. The story is almost a series of vignettes, set mostly around various holidays, showing Sunny slowly growing in her understanding of how she if going to face her family’s problems: not with acceptance, exactly, but rather with a resilient optimism.
Little in-joke about working with one’s brother was worth a chuckle.

A sequel to “Sunny Side Up,” chronicling the year that Sunny’s big brother Dale is away at boarding school. I liked this one a little more than the first one but maybe that’s because I had lowered my expectations. Definitely a quicker read than other books in the genre (should I really be counting this toward my page count??).

This was cute, but I didn't like it as much as the first one. It felt less focused, and, of course, I missed the Florida setting
