A fresh look at conflict and how we get trapped in us vs them and other conflict traps.  In the end, it's really about being able to step back and see the humanity in those we disagree with.  We're all humans, doing our best or what we think is right and often we just need to have calm conversation in order to talk through things.  This is counter to everything from news media sensationalizing everything for views and social media where the loudest voices are lifted up for attention.  The concept of looping is my favorite takeaway from this book and something I need to put more to use.  We all want to be heard, every single one of us wants to feel like we are heard when we speak, it's a great gift to be able to make someone feel heard when they speak to you...to actually listen.

Listened to this while getting ready in the morning and having breakfast.
The book doesn't consist of just strategies and explanations. Ripley skillfully narrates the events of real people who were involved in high conflict and got out. Explaining why they were in it in the first place, how they managed to get out, and how the reader can implement the lessons in their own life.
Although I liked it, I probably wouldn't read it again. Once was enough.
Still, overall it was an insightful read.

This book presented some lovely and practical strategies for avoiding binary thinking and creating a deeper sense of connection across communities that hold differing views. It also depicted factors that lead to high conflict and strategies to avoid getting sucked into high conflict. An interesting and worthwhile read.
