If I had read this when I was younger, it would have been a 5 star read, but because I waited till I was an adult, it gets a much lower rating. All that to say, it was a quick and interesting read and I’m looking forward to reading more of the series.

A decent teen book read.  My issue was its predictability.  The characters had just enough depth to finish the book but not enough for me to be interested in what happens next.

Another great series that I'm not going to be able to abandon. For all those tweens going through a Greek mythology phase, this book is sure to be a hit. Percy Jackson just found out that the Greek Gods are alive and well...and running the world from Manhattan. Plus, he just might be related to them. Percy is an antihero in a lot of ways - impatient, impulsive, and easily offended. It's really satisfying to see him start to find his place in the world. There's lots of action, and plenty of dry humor. I'm particularly fond of Percy's friend Grover, a satyr who munches on tin cans and anything else he can find when he's nervous. This was one that I simply couldn't put down, and I'm excited to pick up the next one!

3.5 (sorry cam)

Things I didn't like
1. The first half was too similar too HP
2. Weak narration. The internal monologue is dry and boring. Percy's sarcasm is very weak.
3. Why are we up Greek gods asses? We all know they suck.
4. Trauma?? Why is Percy not traumatized after watching his mom get fucking vaporized???

Things I did like
1. Disability rep!! Heroes with dyslexia and ADHD!! I LOVE TO SEE IT.
2. Real word commentary--you have to pay to die! Pollution in the River Styx! Animal abuse! Love to see it uncle Rick!
3. Symbolism -- this relates to #2 but the symbolism in this book is beautiful. A pen being a sword?? Rick, I'm OBSESSED

I'm so tired rn I don't know if any of this makes sense but I really liked the last half of this book. Also stop disrespecting my mans Hades

God, I wish I had read this when I was in middle school. I mean I loved it now but back then I loved Greek mythology so I know 12 year old me would’ve adored this. So what was she doing? Reading books by a transphobe, that’s what. Anyway, this was a fun, engaging read with really lovable and intriguing characters that I’m excited to see grow up as i read more of this series/world.
