This book is so triggering. Abortion, abuse, sex, infanticide, matricide … this book is a lot. 

Perhaps it’s a consequence of the “thriller” genre, but I find the way these kinds of books to develop leaves much to be desired. I feel like the first half of the book was setup and then the denouement and finish were lackluster and rushed. In the acknowledgments she mentioned that she hadn’t finished the book until four days before press so maybe that’s got something to do with it

when i first read the book i liked it a lot because i thought it was just supposed to be a psychological horror/thriller, but upon discovering that this is supposed to be a dark romance, i like it significantly less. protagonist is far from the main character, everyone is awful, and there are so many missed opportunities for genuine character development. the romance is the most insufferable part of the book, but it was tolerable when i thought it was meant to be a horror element. so if you just pretend to not know you’re reading a colleen hoover book, this is a solid 3.5 for simplicity and tropes

I  freackin hate you Lowen. You are as shameless and delusional as Verity. Or even more worst if that Manuscript was not real (Tho its technically not proven to be real because your just delusional). She and Jeremy did not deserve to have a happily ever after. I hope Verit 's  ghost hunts them forever.  <Spoiler>
