Much like the previous book in this series, this felt incredibly disjointed. There's a whole section setting up Miranda's life as an everyday mortal, meeting her family and friends, getting to know Zach and his role in her life - then everything's upturned and we never really think about that again.

This is apparently meant to be a prequel, but there's even less worldbuilding set up in this one than in Tantalize. The writing style is fine and the world is intriguing, but there's never really a chance to sink one's teeth (ha) into any part of the story, no reason to care or empathize. Ultimately, I'd describe it as trying to fit all of the Twilight series - from mortal to vampire to The Destined One to the tragic end - in about 300 pages.

A lot of moving pieces, hard to know where to look/when to care.
