I always like supporting small time and independent authors, especially local ones, so I was happy to be given the chance to read Into The Rift.

This is a cute YA portal story that was fun and easy to read. Our protagonist Zara is a young Aussie girl who crosses paths with sweet but slightly mysterious Luca - little does she know he actually comes from a completly different world. Circumstances cause her to end up crossing the rift and discovering both the magic and the darker edge of the world on the other side.

I enjoyed the story on both sides of the rift. In the human world, Zara both lives and works at an animal rescue haven, which honestly sounds pretty awesome. I have to be honest, I enjoyed the haven and its "found family" vibe so much, I almost wanted to stay there. On the other side, Zara encounters all kinds of beings and creatures - not to mention magic, betrayal and of course, romance. I liked that Zara is a pretty strong character who stands on her own two feet rather than being a lovesick puppy dog - even in a world that is new and unfamiliar to her.

It definitely feels like there is more to the story yet to come, so I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next when the second instalment comes out in a couple of months!
