This book was very interesting and I learned a lot from it! As someone who wants to work in forensics, this was an incredibly helpful and informative resource!!

A very engaging read for me.

I enjoyed the covering a lot of topics but found some chapters too short but appreciated the bibliography at the end for further reading.

Another part I appreciated was the reiterations throughout that forensic science doesn't present 100% facts but can just be likeliness or possibilities.

Would really enjoy an updated version with the latest science and technology.

3 hours 36 minutes - A brief but informative introduction to many aspects of forensic sciences, including many well-known processes (eg. fingerprinting) as well as some I'd never really thought about before (eg. entomology). I enjoyed reading about all the cases both past and present that have used the different forensic techniques discussed. However, sometimes it became a little dull to read, but only on occasions. Overall, a good read.

This was a really interesting overview of all of the factors involved in modern forensics and the history of these techniques. I really liked that McDermid based the book around first hand interviews with the amazing specialists in each of these fields and she did a fantastic job of bringing these together into a compelling narrative.

I also found the last chapter very interesting and frustrating. That is that all of the hard work covered in the previous chapters is for nothing if the expert witness cracks under pressure or does not come across well in court. Are legal systems isn't perfect but a lot of work goes into to making them the best and fairest possible.

Seeing McDermid's passion for forensics gives me a lot of confidence in the accurary of her novels and I look forward to picking them up.
