Inheritance, by Christopher Paolini

I genuinely liked the first 3 books of the Inheritance Cycle, even if they felt a bit derivative at parts. But aside from the similarities between the Ra'zac and the nazgul, I liked the description, world-building, and plot. However, this book was just way too long. 850 pages? What was Mr. Paolini thinking? I could be fine with the length if it was actually put to good use, though. It wasn't. There were 2-3 pages dedicated to describing the hands (or fingernails, I don't remember) of a guy who doesn't particularly affect the plot nor have a name! Galbatorix, after all his build-up, was an underwhelming villain. This led to a complete anti-climax and two hundred pages of Christopher Paolini awkwardly completing character arcs and tying up the plot threads, which then led to an ending that was out of the blue, didn't seem logical, and ripped of LOTR. I'd also struggle to say who the target demographic for this book is. The simplistic story and characters seems aimed at kids, but the violence and vocabulary suggest otherwise. All in all, a great example of how not to do a finale.

So much filler but I'm glad I finally finished the series.

It was long and drawn out. But a nice ending to the series.
