What a strange novella. Tochtli, the 7-year old son of a drug kingpin, narrates his everyday life (his home; his warped, but coldly factual perception of life; his family; and his desires) in this short book. Surreal and totally believable at the same time. I'm not sure I've read anything like this before.

I just want to hug Tochtli, and while I do know his father is not the best in the world, he cares for Tochtli in a weird way that he understood best?? Not an excuse but, yeah.

A short, but impactful book. This story is narrated by the 7 year old son of a drug kingpin. It follows his love of hats, his quest for a Liberian pigmy hippopotamus, samurai, his attempts to make sense of the isolated, heavy life around him, and the deaths that surround him. Although the language of the book is relatively simple (albeit at times shocking), the subject matter is profound and it is impossible to ignore the impact that this life has and will undoubtedly have on Totchli. I feel like this is a book I will continue to think about.

Entretenida obra cuyo mayor mérito es la voz de su narrador, un infante que lee el diccionario y habita, junto con su padre, un capo, una mansión.

This book was a book that despite finishing it, I just didn't get it. I didn't think it was enigmatic, I rather thought it was pathetic. Both words that the 7 year seems to know but not understand their usage. I did think it was a great representation of how a child thinks, but there is no story, it is very repetitive and it makes you wish for an end that is never even contemplated by the author. I was too sure this book had any redeeming features and I know that if it had been a longer book, I would have tossed it aside after 10 pages.

Es una historia entretenida, inocente pero al mismo tiempo algo siniestra. La disfruté más de lo que esperaba.
