I have been hesitant to read this book because of the back and forth reviews.

Trigger warnings are needed for this: sexual assault, drugging, non consent sex, male toxic traits

I loved the fairy world and the fantasy part of this. I was “whatever” about the love story. I read this fast, so it held my attention.
The thing I absolutely was disappointed in was the intention of sexual assault and non consented sexual acts. I couldn’t believe she added this.

There is a point near the end after FREYE getting drugged over and over and the fairy says he never touched her below because he wanted to be on Tamlin’s good side…… what?!??
What?!????
How about … not to do things to her SHE DID NOT AGREE ON. so so ridiculous.

I only would read the 2nd one if rape is left out of it!

i found this book at the open book shelf and, curious about the hype and looking for something unchallenging to contrast academic reading, i decided to pick it up.
well, the writing was worse than expected, the plot as predictable as i remembered the young adult fiction from my early teens. The worst part about this was that none of the characters seemed to have any personality or interests (besides an unspecific unbased interest in *art*), just hollow plot devices. The racy scenes were my only motivation to get through the endless inconsistencies and ramblings of a painfully one dimensional and frankly frustratingly stupid narrator but even those scenes proved to be unrewarding lol.

I just don’t get the appeal of these books yet. Aside from it being a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, which is fine in and of itself, the story cherry-picks from lots of existing books (Hunger Games is an obvious one) and Feyre is actually kind of annoying. Characters repeatedly warn her to not do the thing, she does the thing anyway, and suffers through the consequences until one of those characters (always male) rescues her. She’s portrayed as a tough sexy Cool Girl badass but actually largely lacks agency and/or uses her agency to do stupid stuff that men have to save her from. And speaking of sexy, there are a few scenes where Feyre is put through sexually degrading situations and those always had an undertone of voyeurism that didn’t sit well with me.

I’m really torn on this one. For most of it it was a fun read with action mixed with a touch of tawdry romance and a good amount of folk lore, but I was really turned off by the glaring and underemphasized issues with consent.
She’s drugged and then hyper sexualized and publicly debased. The perpetrator “owns her” and admits he only doesn’t rape her so he can keep that as a bargaining chip. Somehow this is painted as a redeeming quality in him? They give him a redemption arc that ruined the book for me. I don’t want to be on the side of abusers.
Truly I think the consent issues ruined this book for me.
