This. Book. Was. Amazing.
From the unique magic system centered around books to the in depth characterization we see Joanna, Esther, Nicholas, and Collins go through as the plot goes on— it’s done so well. The mystery and questions of the plot unfolding the way it did, along with the pacing set up perfectly together in my view I thought that it was highly enjoyable. I had a blast!
Really I don’t have enough praise for this book! It is now one of my favorite books I’ve read. It’s up there at the level of how much I love The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.

One other thing I want to mention is how well the author writes such distinctive characters. I felt you were able to connect and feel for them so deeply due to how well the descriptive writing was done. Even for the side of “villian” and the “henchman” of this book so many emotions are provoked by their motivations and personality we read. You understand how it all ties together in the scheme of the plot that I felt was so interesting to connect points together as you read.

I enjoyed this book. The plot was interesting, with some unexpected twists that kept me engaged. The author’s take on magic and the role of the scribe was unique and added a fresh perspective to the story. The world-building was well thought out, and the connection between magic and writing was intriguing.

However, there was a point in the middle where the story felt a bit slow, and it seemed to drag for a while. Fortunately, the pace picked up again, and my interest was renewed.

This overall wasn't for me. It felt like a whole lot of nothing happening. I think there were interesting aspects of it and the characters were okay but I wasn't invested much until more towards the middle-end of it. It didn't hold my interest very well, but I did finish it.

It doesn't happen too often, but every once in a while I find a book that's very difficult to put down. When it comes to Ink, Blood, Sister, Scribe, I had to pull an all-nighter while going through the most exciting chapters because I knew I couldn't sleep until a resolution was found.

I would call this fantasy-horror due to the many body-harm scenes with blood and mentions of horrific topics, but it's not scary or graphic in other ways. You just can't have an aversion to reading about blood and the way they write with it, which definitely made me uncomfortable, but I powered through since the story was so captivating overall.

(Kids, don't try this at home. It's a fantasy world in this novel, and making yourself bleed to write stuff is only going to hurt you and make you sick. You won't find "magic" that way in our actual reality. So no self-harm, please!)

It's a modern fantasy thriller mystery(?) and it's great. I love a magic system with limitations, I especially love a magic system based around books.

The mysteries are fairly obvious but the fun is in seeing our characters gradually piece together what's going on and how they can win out as everything they know unravels.

Really enjoyed the characters and the problems they solve! I'm so happy they find each other!
