It doesn't happen too often, but every once in a while I find a book that's very difficult to put down. When it comes to Ink, Blood, Sister, Scribe, I had to pull an all-nighter while going through the most exciting chapters because I knew I couldn't sleep until a resolution was found.
I would call this fantasy-horror due to the many body-harm scenes with blood and mentions of horrific topics, but it's not scary or graphic in other ways. You just can't have an aversion to reading about blood and the way they write with it, which definitely made me uncomfortable, but I powered through since the story was so captivating overall.
(Kids, don't try this at home. It's a fantasy world in this novel, and making yourself bleed to write stuff is only going to hurt you and make you sick. You won't find "magic" that way in our actual reality. So no self-harm, please!)

This book has an interesting magic system. I like the different way that magic was incorporated in this book. It was interesting that some can write the magic but they can make the magic happen. It was almost like a separation of power to make sure to spread the wealth.
I liked the characters. They each had their own way they viewed life based on the circumstances of their experiences.
While I like these things, this book was a little slow for me and hard to get into. One thing I recommend is listening to the audio. When I was about halfway through the book I found the audio on Libby and listened to that while also reading the physical book. It helped me get through this book faster. I'm glad I got through it because many things were revealed that kept the story moving. I was able to see what was coming but glad to see how it worked out.
If you like unique magic systems, portals, and adventure; this book is for you. This book has no spice just some kissing.

I enjoyed this book WAY more than I expected to. Upon picking it up, I thought the book would be sort of YA fluff for some reason and it is not that at all. The characters are endearing and interesting, the horror elements are scary, and the mystery kept me guessing! The magic system is a hard magic system and really cool. As others have said, a great spin on the witch!

This book was an absolute delight to read. I had just recently read another magical library style book and this one absolutely blew that one out of the water. The characters were great, and I loved how they all interacted with both each other and the different plot points. Also the magic style in this was so unique, it was really well thought out and I feel like it could really be taken in some cool directions. I think my only complaint would be the romance near the end with Collins and Joanna, I see where it came from but it also felt a little quick. Otherwise this book was great, I didnt want to put it down and it has left me craving more of this series immediately!!

I loved this book. It’s so cleverly written, particularly the way that the author reveals things, but also through the characters. Nicholas was my favourite by far and I have fallen quite a lot in love with him. His power but also his vulnerability - it’s a semblance of power really.
The plot was so clever. Everything seemed relevant and connected. There were unexpected connections, connections that I didn’t see coming. Though I must admit, I thought the cat might have been magical, only entering the house when the wards came down.
The descriptions are wonderful.
The ending was sudden and left me really wanting to know what happens next. I would love there to be a second installment. I definitely plan to read more novels by this author.
