This overall wasn't for me. It felt like a whole lot of nothing happening. I think there were interesting aspects of it and the characters were okay but I wasn't invested much until more towards the middle-end of it. It didn't hold my interest very well, but I did finish it.

I absolutely loved Harry Potter as a kid and chased that high with YA fiction into my late 20s. I've soured on HP that last few years and realized I want to read more than just YA and this book satisified that and more... hoping for more from Emma Törzs!

This book would have been a 5 star read for me, but it was a bit slow at the beginning. In order to really hash out the characters and plot, I can see now why the author needed to provide so much exposition. 2 Half Sisters, one heavily protected orphan and lots of magic, mystery and mirrors in-between this book about spell books.

Favorite Character:
Joanna - mainly because I relate to her people pleasing tendencies and felt her trauma/isolated life was believable. Collins definitely comes in close second. I can still hear his accent.

Favorite Moment:
Tie between the plane scene when it comes together that Collins and Nicholas are the folks Esther is sitting besides - with her beloved book AND the scene in which all the interconnectedness is revealed.

Overall, this book completely hit the spot for an autumn, dark read. I enjoy a good journey where things wrap up nicely and there are some surprises along the way! 🪄
