Be back later for my thoughts.
Actually, review: Wow, this memoir was tough to read, and I don't mean because it was bad. I rarely give big reviews of books, but I thought as someone who has had similar experiences to jennette, I wanted to put my thoughts of it. Of course, I have never been and never plan to be famous, I also grew up with an abusive mother who introduced me to eating disorders and other body issues. It was especially hard to get through the last few sections of the book when she was talking about her experience with bulimia.Â
The amount of emotional incest Jennettes mother did to her was astronomical. When one of her therapists told her that her mother was abusive, it made me remember the first time my sister and I had to explain to our younger sister that our situation wasn't normal for growing up and that we used the word abusive she broke down. It was one of my harder memories and moments in life.Â
Jennette did a beautiful job telling her story, and I highly recommend it. However, if you have had experience with parental abusive or eating disorders, I would be cautious going in.
