My expectation for this book was moderate because I was unfamiliar with the author. The story was decent and easy to read . A few spelling errors and missing words didn’t detract from it. I haven’t read a stalker dark romance story before so that’s a first. As for Calista and Hayden they are a match made in heaven. Hayden is obsessed with Callie. Even goes so far as to stalk her steal her pearl necklace and panties. Callie is dealing with her misfortune that took her from high society to living in a dilapidated apartment and working at a coffee shop. Hayden comes to defend Callie from a very angry costumer. I forgot to mention this man is a killer and he killed her father. I gave this story three stars . There is a part two which will continue this tale from where it left off. I think. Anyways , if you need me I’ll be reading it.

Fifty shades of grey but way darker and way more trigger warnings. Still gonna read the 2nd book, even if everything was pretty much predictable throughout the first one.

OMG!

Okay, this book wrecked me. Like want to scream and cry and throw things wrecked me. But in the best way. I think I just found a new favorite author and series!

I love Harper she’s the best BFF. While at first I was unsure about Hayden, I fell in love with man, dark side and all. As for Callie…girl is a bada$$ hands down.

Okay running off to read book 2!

I am dead. Deceased. Was not expecting to learn about myself today. That chase scene though. Y'all.

As far as the writing style goes, there were a few awkward phrasings, but overall, it is very well written. Hayden is the stuff of fantasy. Calista is a bit of a Mary Sue with honestly some very understandable trust issues and a tragic backstory. And the ending is a cliffhanger worthy of the season finale of a TV Show.

As far as the romance dynamics go, you've got some nonconsensual stalking and voyeurism. You have themes of obsession and "protection" via control and manipulation. Lots of tension. Hayden throws a lot of primal lines out there, and is extremely possessive. Calista, rightfully, challenges his desire to lock her in a cage throughout the entire story and I love her for it.

Obviously thier relationship isn't healthy. Obviously it's problematic. But dark romance doesn't exist as a genre because of the wholesome vibes. I will be reading the sequel to this one, and I'm really interested to see how the issues presented in this book get resolved.
