The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School manages to touch on some really tough topics with grace and seriousness while being a light and pleasant read.
It’s truly lovely, I didn’t want to put it down and the characters are so well fleshed out.

This book is heartbreakingly raw at times and so real in its depiction of the overtly patriarchal and homophobic Latinx community so many find themselves in; but, it’s also beautiful in its ability to show change within that community. The audiobook narrator does a great job of threading the nuances in tone when Yami is exploring all of these emotions and it’s hard not to find oneself feeling it all. There were so many moments where I was so pissed at others on Yami's behalf. Every time her mom would make a homophobic remark, I wanted to slap her and tell her that words have consequences.

This was a great book and I highly recommend!

Oh, a good young adult contemporary novel is such a joy. The strength of this one is the character dynamics, developed with impressive craft and showcasing the power of trust and forgiveness. My only complaint really is its length; I felt like we were existing in the world of the story without it progressing forward, particularly in the latter third.

That said, a book I know so many teenage readers will enjoy and I hope it reaches them!

I wish there had been more books like this one when I was at school. I have outgrown the target group but I would recommend it to teens or to anyone who wants a fluffy story that doesn't leave its more serious themes unexplored.

For readers who enjoy stories about siblings, this is a really good one.
