Pain is everywhere. It blooms in you when you are pricked with thorn, you twist your ankle or even hear something hurtful from someone you love. Whatever form it may take, the end result is the same. You are hurt, sad and end up disrupting your own peace. Pain is constant. But like a diamond formed by constant pressure on a piece of coal, what emerges out of pain is a beautiful form of happiness that restores the peace that was broken.

Under this premise, Meant to be together is a book about pain. A lot of it. And then healing and finally love. Inspired by a true story, the author Faraaz Kazi writes the tale of Preethi and Sameer. The story begins with a grief-struck Preethi looking through her old journals and remembering her childhood. She reminisces the various stages of her life till the present day. That is when she meets Sameer. Her friendship with Sameer grows stronger and soon evolves to love. But a tragedy befalls and leaves Preethi unsure about everything. What happens next is something for you to read.

The beginning of the book left me wanting more. The writing style of the story through journal entries was very creative. The first half of the book did what it was intended to, give a gist of the plot, set the mood and evoke the necessary emotions. Kudos on the last part. It was very well carried out. The second half was good but it was not able to match up to the beginning. The transition can be described as interesting to slightly interesting. I did notice there are a few inconsistencies, Preethi's intense smoking habit vanished and her struggling to smoke a joint to name one. I also felt that the book ended abruptly. The story reached its conclusion out of nowhere and I feel it could have been fine-tuned. I liked how the author included himself in the story. It felt like he was giving a part of himself through the book. Now the grand verdict, do I recommend it. For all of you who have been hurting and want something to show you, it's not going to last, pick up this book, read it and you will feel better.

I thank Faraaz for providing me with a review copy and wish him all the best for his future.
