Please translate more of Mr. Higashino’s books into English! His books feature thoughtful, intelligent mail characters who solve puzzles in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes but with a decided Japanese flavor. I was initially bothered by the format of this book, each chapter is set around a different character in the story and they end up being almost individual short stories. They are all working around the same mystery but often the puzzle solved isn’t 5he question of who done it. But as it went along I got more into the flow and the unraveling of the mystery is so deftly handled my concerns melted away. I also loved how Detective Kaga is interested only in truth and depth, not the superficialities that seem to take so much attention these days. As one of the other police officers notices, “the precinct detective had looked into things that the rest of them had all dismissed as insignificant, keeping at it until he got to the truth, regardless of whether there was a connection to the murder or not.” I marvel at the construction of this novel and the patience to let the story reveal itself through the relentless curiosity of Detective Kaga. As I said, more please!

Sangat manusiawi.

Detective Kyoichiro Kaga (Book 2 in the series) of the Tokyo Police Department is transferred to a new precinct in the Nihonbashi area of Tokyo. He is assigned to investigate the murder of a woman. As he investigates, he discovers a greater number of potential suspects, and it seems nearly all the people living and working in the business district of Nihonbashi have a motive for the murder.

Detefktif kaga??? Keren banget please!

Detefktif kaga tu yaa kenapa si keren banget??

Follow up to Malice, and while this story is written in a new way it again is a very enjoyable book that I didn't want to put down.

Very interesting mystery with a protagonist that seems a bit like a Japanese take on a combination of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. Kaga is notable for his strong observation skills and above average intelligence.

I really liked the format of the book, with chapters devoted to each suspect/line of inquiry.

I am interested in reading more books in this series as well as the author’s other mystery series.
