A ridiculous and very deep book at the same time. It's amazing how the author could combine real problems and wise words and thoughts with this funny and grotesque setting. I liked how this book brought me into a world full of other books. It was magical and i could imagine everything so we'll especially with the help of the illustrations. I think it may be a metaphor of how dangerous books/knowledge can be sometimes but also how it can affect our emotions and feelings. Especially the end was so heroic and dramatic that it almost made me forget about the unnatural settings and creatures.

AVERAGED TOTAL: 4 out of 5.

This was an unexpectedly good book. There were parts that seemed to drag, especially in the beginning, but right when you'd think about putting the book down, it would pick up again and you'd get swept up in it. It's really just an adventuring sort of story, "character goes on an adventure" type of deal. It's the setting that makes it so unique and magical; a world full of books. There's an entire city called Bookhelm, filled with book stores, where pastries are shaped like books, and special events include nightly readings. There are all sorts of creatures (in fact, the main character is a 3 foot dinosaur), included scary ones and not-so-scary ones. My favorite had to be the Fearsome Booklings, who live underground, each of whom take the name of an author and memorize all of his/her works, to recite at will. It was really a delightful read, all in all, especially recommended for anyone who is a lover of books.

I found myself skimming all the descriptions of everything. I'm on page 50 and i might have read 10 actual pages. I had high hopes but I'm just not into it. Might be interested in it at a later time.

The illustrations are gorgeous.
