By the end I was very invested in some characters. The first 145 pages were kind of slow.

Okay, I really couldn't decide between 3/4 stars. I loved the first book, and was excited for this one, and it was definitely good but I had some issues. First, it's such a slow beginning, it really takes a minute to get anywhere. Then (without spoliers) there's an addition of other storybook characters and that felt SO awkward. The ending also was pretty sad, but it did intrigue me to see how the next book is going to go. I felt very conflicted with this, all your fave characters are still there and the plot was really fun once it started going.

I'm not going to do a proper review, but I will say a couple things.
I liked the Enchantress Returns more then The Wishing Spell
But there were a few things that annoyed me, mainly though it was the repeated use of italics to add emphasis that annoyed me the most. I began to find it didn't add much emphasis at all, and instead it kept distracting me from the story once I noticed how often it was being used.
But otherwise a good story, I particularly liked the take on Rumpelstiltskin and Mother Goose.

The kids and I really enjoyed this book, possibly even more than the first. Colfer’s storytelling feels a little more natural & since we were listening to it on audio, his reading with all the voices was definitely more polished for this book and he seems to have hit his stride. It was so fun and entertaining. Great for long boring rides in the car!
