Daisy Jones and the Six is a fictional rock band biography. That...sounds like it wouldn't be good. But it really is just an engaging read. Between this and the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I feel like maybe I need to read everything by Taylor Jenkins Reid??

I don't actually know anything about rock n roll history but the entire time I was reading this book I was thinking of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and, well, I got to the acknowledgements and that was the inspiration. Daisy is so clearly a stand-in for Stevie Nicks. That was one of the few albums that my parents loved when I was growing up that didn't make me cringe - I've always loved that album.

That being said, this book and all of the characters stand on their own. In the end, the story is just about the band putting together and touring their 1979 hit album. There's a lot of drugs, some more drugs, just so much drugs, a little bit of sex here and there, and rock n roll. Also a lot of song writing! That was my favorite part of the book, when they're finally all together writing this album and Billy and Daisy are at each others' throats. It's a wild ride.

Daisy is great and all, and Camila, Simone, and Karen are all great characters, but I gotta say, Warren is my favorite character by far. He's great; Everyone is dealing with their shit and he's just like chilling. Other than Warren, I loved Karen best. She's so self-possessed and I love the way she looks at all these strong women around her and is just like - that's what I want.

I really want this to be on film or television now. I want these songs recorded.

Kept me engaged the whole time. The author is really good at keeping the reader connected with the characters and story, I knew nothing and didn't care about writing songs, but the book kept me interested. So many quotes in the book that are thought-provoking and makes you look at life in many different ways. Unputdownable and such a unique way- Not a thriller that will keep you turning pages till the plot twist , not really a romance that will make you anticipate characters getting together, but a book about life and our internal struggles. How we deal with them.

I reviewed this book on my blog.

Re-read the audio version with my husband, and would definitely recommend going that route if you're wavering. It was even better that way.
