An interesting fantasy romance which had some laugh out loud sentences. Both the main characters have self-esteem issues and don't think that anyone could be with them because (insert flaws here).  The first half is light, sweet and witty. The last half was more adventurous, mystery-thriller with a happy ending.

That was a very delightful read. I read through the last 25% as quickly as I could, but as luck would have it, people just kept *talking* to me, and I had to be a *normal* person.

Seriously, though. I loved the two main characters and several of the secondary characters. I can't wait to read the second and third books.

But I do have a question that may never be answered. How did Stephen's god die? Maybe that question will eventually be answered.

This was a wonderful book. I throughly enjoyed myself. I love that this book featured to middle-aged main characters. Their chemistry was good, the plot was enjoyable, the worldbuilding is awesome, and I found the writing to be full of laughs.

This is the longest book I've read by T. Kingfisher and the genre is more traditional fantasy-romance than the books I know her by (the dark fantasy/horror novellas published by Tor). The pacing and plot beats are also more standard, but the characters and storytelling still definitely carry Kingfisher's signature weird and heartwarming style. Super fun read and kept my attention, loved how the resolution of the romance plot maintained their separate identities.

I wanted to like this book so bad. I loved the world-building and ate up every little detail. Unfortunately, I loved every character except the two protagonists. I found Grace's inner monologues to be so cringeworthy that I barely finished the book.
