I was excited for this book when I first heard the premise, but refrained from reading it because of lack luster reviews. Glad I read it anyway, it was good and exactly what I wanted from a magic hotel with a mysterious and possibly dark past.

If you enjoyed The Night Circus or "Spirited Away" you will find yourself right at home in this dark fantasy with some horror elements.

While the beginning is a whirlwind of magic that is tricky to follow, Jani is a great protagonist reminiscent of fairytale heroines on epic quests and her story continues to build and take exquisite turns through the end of the novel.

Due to the horror elements, this is a little more niche than the traditional fantasy romance, but the tension building towards those moments is done well without being overdone to the point of distracting from the story itself. It's a part, a gruesome part, but important and lends a gravity that balances out the cotton candy sweetness of the beginning.

It’s an amazing story. It was not so easy to get into the story the first 50 pages. But after it only got better and better. I would definitely recommend. It’s noting like other fantasy books.
