It was good! Maybe not my favorite from this author but still good nonetheless.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an audio version of this book.
This was my first foray into Hillier and it started out slowly (for me). And then came the end of part two, and I was completely hooked.
The story went back and forth between a few different narratives and time frames. There are multiple mysteries going on at once. But somehow, it did not get confusing and just made me want to keep reading as I was putting the pieces together.
The narrator did a great job with the different voices. The rate and lilt made it easy to listen.

This one started out great, but then became slow for me. I thought there'd be more about the podcast angle. There was no twist or anything really shocking. It just really annoyed me that the MC wanted to start a new anonymous life, but married a famous dude

4.5/5 stars. I love this author and how she develops characters in her thrillers.

Like other reviews have already mentioned, the plot twist was pretty easy to figure out (I felt confident I had it in the first few chapters). Which makes me wonder if that was intentional, was the author trying to be mysterious about it? Or were we supposed to figure it out that early? That said I still really enjoyed reading through the journey to the full reveal in the book. Love the short chapters, makes it easy to get sucked in and keep reading. I read about 90% of this book in a day.

This kept me guessing, had compelling characters and story. TW for sexual and physical abuse.

Paris wakes up in her bathroom, covered in blood with a razorblade and her famous husband is dead in the bathtub.

She knows shell be charged with murder, but she isn’t worried about this. She is worried about someone figuring out who she really is.

What a great read! I listened to part of this one, and it had me hooked. I binged this book. It had me guessing all over the place. I didn’t find it overly predictable, which made me like it even more.

I cannot wait to read more by this author, and even better- she’s Canadian!

10/10 for JH again! She has a such a great way of relating you to characters. I rooted for Paris the whole time no matter what actually happened!

Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a book character as much as I hate Ruby. She is an absolutely terrible human. Her daughter is incredibly resilient and brave to have survived her.

Excellent thriller. I saw the midway twist coming in advance, and while I wasn’t surprised by the last two, I didn’t exactly see them coming. For me, this was part thriller, part coming-of-age story, and that was a nice blend.

But wow. Ruby? Burn in hell, woman.

This was just ok.
I figured out pretty early on that Paris was Joey, and Mae was the one in the urn.
This is the first book that I’ve read that was based in Canada, so that was cool I guess.
It kept my attention and I wanted to finish it out to the end to see all the tiny details come together.

I do feel that there should be some trigger warnings with this book though. Sexual assault. Child abuse. Sexual abuse on child. And at times it was graphic. Not my cup of tea.
