Wow that was a roller-coaster.

My initial thoughts are that it's morbid and depressing, but I can understand the points being made. A very quick read that packs a big punch to your sense of self and spikes your fear of death. I found the writing style and sentence structure really interesting, I've never read something quite like it. I didn't enjoy this per say, I was gripped, the themes were both  upsetting and thought-provoking.

I was not a fan of the misogynistic and racist parts of this book, though I understand this was of a certain era and perhaps aided the overall absurdist message of the book. However those moments partially lessened my opinion and intrigue in this book.

Maybe I read a bad translation or something, but the writing in this book was so dry somehow, so I didn't enjoy it at all. The main character was so extremely unlikeable, wich should be kind of obvious, but the book made it seem like the reader was supposed to like him or feel sorry for him wich was really weird. The book wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't for me.

I came into this without knowing anything, other than it was a widely regarded classic. I leave without being able to describe a lot of it, which strikes me as quite a Meursault-ish review. It's a story about a man who speaks to me at some primal level; the world continues, and we make our actions, and...people move around us.

It's a short read and one that has left me a lot of thoughts that I cannot, clearly, put into words.

I liked the story and writing style, but HATED the way he wrote about women so much it totally offed me off the book. I find the main character kind of annoying the same way I find Kerouac annoying. Seems like the kind of guy that wants everyone to KNOW how nonchalant and unbothered he is.

There’s a scene when he’s in trial and a witness woman comes in the room. The first thing he says is a description of her breasts and lips. I absolutely hated that.
