Getting tired of the same themes - women getting violently raped and killed. I know it’s realistic and actually happens but  non-female victims also exist

Received from NetGalley and LibroFM, thanks!

CW: rape, kidnapping, rape, more rape

I have read every one of Karin Slaughter’s books and she’s one of my favourite authors.  Though, I do have to say, please, can some non-women be target next time, please?  I really like her writing, I like how she builds suspense, it’s all very well done, but most of her books involve women being the victims of usually pretty horrific crimes.  And while, yes, women do statistically tend to be the victims of these types of crimes more often, it’s also fiction, and you can make up whatever you want.  If a non-verbal merman can get his HEA with a demi-sexual fisherman, Karin Slaughter can write some non-female victims.

This is the latest in the Will Trent series, which I adore.  I absolutely love Will Trent, but only book Will Trent, we won’t talk about that other one on the TV…  This book carries on the relationship between Will and Dr Sara Linton, and it brings up things from Sara’s past that we thought we over and done with.  While I did like getting to meet some of the folks from Sara’s past, they were all pretty fucking awful.  And bringing up traumatic stuff over and over felt icky, though it had to be done for the story.  I’m a bit unsure of how I feel about the overall story, because it was all rape all the time, and I really dislike reading about that.  But, like I said above, I do really like Slaughter’s writing and the way she tells a story, I just wish it hadn’t been this particular story.

Very happy to be back with Will and Sara, wish it had been not so rapey.

Mind-blowlingly fantastic. The creepy in this one was so real I could feel it in my bones. The plot was brilliant- albeit twisted- but that’s what we love about Slaughter, right? Slaughter is such a consistently terrific author. She simply does not drop a stitch. The perfect combination of police procedural and thriller. Wow. There just aren’t enough adjectives so I will end by saying most highly recommend.
