The book is 3 stars. The Gorey illustrations are an extra half star, though non-Gorey fans may not appreciate them as much as I do.

I’ll give an extra star for the fact it’s a classic and inspired the chapters it did. Overall I found it mostly slow and difficult to get through due to the diary format of it. There’s a lot of repetition - the same thing happening over and over and it just made me want to get through it.
