Great book. Wish the dialogue of the black characters weren't so blatantly stereotypical. It sounded like they wanted the black characters to sound like they were from the 70's and 80's. There was an overuse of slang language to sound "hip" and "relevant" and to make sure the readers knew the characters were black. As if all black people speak like that. It was off putting.wrensreadingroom's review against another edition

I did like the ending and the ambiguity over the future of Campbell and Lena's connection. I just wish the exploration of heavy themes like white privilege, class, racism, police brutality, etc was a bit more complex.

I’m still not sure if the intention was to write a full length novel or a novella because it read like the latter.
The narrators did great too. Lena sounded like the girl I imagine Tiffany Haddish would have sounded like at her age. Campbell was sweet and adorable even if her naivety and ignorance was a bit irksome sometimes.
I particularly loved the way their budding friendship used as a medium to discuss the issues of interracial co-existence and friendships.
In summary, it was a short, sweet read. I 100% recommended.
