Panowich has done it again! His sequel to Bull Mountain is full of strong women, strong writing, and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat! This is a must read!!

I accidentally read this without reading the first book in the series, not sure if that changed my enjoyment of it or not.

This book was a perfectly enjoyable detective/crime novel, a bit of a Justified rip-off but still enjoyable enough that I plowed through it. Not sure I'll rush back to other books by this author, but also not a bad read if you're looking for something and enjoy this genre.

I loved the 1st book in this series but unfortunately this sequel just wasn't as good. I loved the characters and the writing but, I couldn't get over some of the plotting issues.

This was a good follow-up to Bull Mountain, and I'd recommend reading that one first. This was pretty similar and I liked it a lot, although I occasionally got a little annoyed with Clayton, the sheriff. He kept doing things that he knew was wrong and self-destructive, yet did it anyway. There are lots of people who have problems with alcohol, drugs, or gambling, and get in a lot of trouble but don't realize they are making mistakes until it's too late. That's easier to take than someone that knows for sure they are making the mistakes, but do it anyway. But it's always easier to see the mistakes of others, I guess.

I'm not rushing in to read the next one of the series, though. I need a break from the violence although I probably won't wait very long before revisiting the gang to see what they get up to.

I loved the second installment of this series, and it does seem that the ending allows for more. These books are pretty violent and filled with some mean people, but I am all in. The ending of the first book was so ridiculous, but I found this book to be a little more reasonable (although still pretty far fetched). The best part of these two books, women save the day in both.

Great sequel - gritty and raw. Loved twist at the end!

I’m right in the middle with this one, I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. Some parts were incredibly interesting and at times I was thoroughly enjoying this novel and convinced it would be a five star read because there’s nothing I enjoy more than a good crime fiction with some family drama thrown in. Sometimes with crime fiction you see the same kind of storyline repeated too often but this story was definitely an original idea that I’ve never seen before so I really did love that and the first book was excellent. But it just lacked the pull that the first book had on me, it was definitely a case of second book syndrome. I liked where the first book ended and I didn’t really see the necessity of this one quite honestly. So while it was still a good book it didn’t fully command my attention and interest like the first one did.

I received this ARC as a Brand Ambassador for The Book Drop and I can’t say enough about it! A couple of weeks back, I mentioned that I received it but that it was 2nd in a series...so, me being me, I had to buy and read the first one (Bull Mountain) first! I enjoyed Bull Mountain but I really loved Like Lions!
Fair warning: if you are sensitive to language or violence, these books are not for you. Let’s say, if you would definitively NOT watch a Tarantino movie, take a hard pass on these. But if you love characters, suspense, family drama and action...these are books you need to pick up!
Set in the South, Bull Mountain began the story of boot-legging turned crank distributing family living up on a mountain. It weaves together the generations and provides twists at every turn! Like Lions brings that generational story to a close with even more surprises...but continues to allow you to get attached to some of the central characters you loved in Bull Mountain. The author took some flack after Bull Mountain for his portrayal of women (hookers and housewives) but he has more than redeemed himself, imo, in Like Lions. I couldn’t put either of these books down and they are WAY outside my wheelhouse for normal reading selections. If you have strong nerves and a strong stomach, give these a try! You won’t regret it! @the.book.drop #thebookdrop @bpanowich
