So much information is packed into this book, a must read for anyone who is interested in pirate history. Only complaint is it might even be too much info at times and hard to follow.

Informative. Interesting. Kinda dry. Wish there was more about Anne Bonny.

This was supremely enjoyable. I think that there's a corner of most of our hearts that is fond is the swashbuckling pirate image -- hard-drinking, hardscrabble men following their own rules and no others. What was interesting to me about this book was how surprisingly close that was to reality. Given the description of life in the British navy and merchant marine at the time, I too might have turned pirate -- when being a pirate is straight-up more pleasant than being a law-abiding mariner, where pleasant means "actually getting paid" and "getting to have any choices ever." This book traces the golden age of the pirates, Hornagold and Blackbeard all the way to Calico Jack, and you get a deep sense of the why and the how of the pirates, and a much better sense of the world that revolved around the seas of the southern American colonies and the Caribbean (and, of course, the Bahamas). It was thoroughly enjoyable.
I listened to this one on audiobook, and enjoyed the narrator quite a bit: good voice and a sedate, gentle reading style (though some of his pronunciations made me giggle).

interesting story about the real Pirates of the Caribbean. There are a lot of names to keep track of though which makes it a little bit complicated.
