A smoldering flame that rages to a firestorm. Give it time. It lives up to the hype.

Wow.
Just wow.
What a story.
The writing is absolutely captivating-
I felt like I knew Amal, I was so invested in his story and him getting justice.
While I'm reading this book, a student of mine had just spent 3 days in juvenile detention for merely being a passenger in a car- the driver was pulled over for speeding but somehow the vehicle needed to be searched (for speeding mind you) and an unlicensed firearm was found- this had nothing to do with my student. Despite that, they was detained for 3 days.
Did I mention the driver and passenger were both Black?
Amal's story hits so hard and slams into my heart like a hammer. Further proof of just how broken the system is, how deeply rooted the racism is.
