I was curious to continue in this series after reading "Slammed" last year.
Layken's mother has passed away, and she is left alone to raise her little brother. Her saving grace is that Will, in a similar situation, has stood by her side and helped her cope with losing both of her parents in such a short time. Will is trying to hold his own family together and is trying to move forward with Layken. But someone from his past has popped up and is threatening his future.
I think Layken's and Will's reactions to what is happening in their lives is very realistic given how young they are. However, they both have taken guardianship of their little brothers, and they are managing households all on their own, which is a lot for someone still figuring out their own life. I feel like for two people who have the weight of their world on their shoulders, they continue to make immature decisions, especially Layken. Layken's reaction to Will's "infidelity", which I do not think it even was, screams teenager. She completely blew the situation out of proportion.
This book is rife with drama, and this series is similar to reading a soap opera. Just when you think Layken and Will might get a happily ever after, the universe intervenes and completely derails their plans. This book kept taking turns I was not expecting, and by the end of it, I felt like I had whiplash.
This story read a little young for what I typically like to read, but it was a quick read, and I feel like I have quenched my curiosity for what happened with Will and Layken.
