This is the first in a series, and it’s a commitment (time wise). It’s worth it! Time travel, fantasy, history, love and romance, torture and death. Riveting!

I read a lot of social science research, so *for me* this seems lighter. It was still slow at times, especially the second half of the book. I have watched the series, so I’m mindful that a lot has been revised for TV format, but sometimes the lengthy narration or the absolutely over the top fantastical elements at every turn take me out of it.
